Johny Huber
Claremont, CA
Johny Huber is a singer-songwriter from Claremont, a city renowned for producing some of the most compelling musicians and songwriters in Southern California. With over 40 years of experience as a working musician and performer, he is best known as the entertaining vocalist and primary songwriter for Farmer Tan, a fan favorite at the legendary Ronnie Mack’s Barn Dance. The critically acclaimed band shared the stage with many iconic Americana and roots artists including Dave Alvin, Rick Shea, Chris Gaffney, Lucinda Williams, Dale Watson, Jesse Dayton, and the Derailers.
In March 1999, Farmer Tan released their self-titled album. Recorded at Rotund Rascal Recording in North Hollywood, the self-produced album was engineered by Dave Pearlman, who also played pedal steel and banjo, and featured the late Don Heffington on drums. Mixed by Dusty Wakeman at Mad Dog Studios, the collection was well received by alt country, roots and Americana enthusiasts in the U.S. and Europe. Critics noted Huber’s “oft penetrating wordplay” with songs ranging from plaintive laments to celebratory takes on the bittersweet spot between nostalgia and growing up.
Huber continues to write songs and perform both solo and with bands that feature many of the talented musicians and friends he has met along the way. Whether reminiscing about a memory or offering a robust toast, his songs serve as subtle reminders of the power of music and the passage of time.
