Brian Jay
Orange County, CA
Brian Jay is a singer songwriter who writes and performs original music with the bands “Twang Danglers” and “Brian Jay and the Last Call boys”. Brian has been writing and performing music in Southern California since the early 1980’s. He spent his teen years in rockabilly and punk bands, writing, singing, and playing guitar. In 1985 Brian, along with friend and co-writer Anthony Marais, founded the ska/rock band “The Squids”. They brought their original music to the local clubs in LA and Orange County and forged quite a following. The band had a gorilla marketing campaign in the summer of ’86 that announced, “the Squids are coming”. This landed them in the offices of local radio stations KROQ and KNAC, which led to The Squids having two songs in regular rotation on both stations throughout that summer. By the beginning of the 1990’s, working full time in the manufacturing sector along with starting a family drew Brian away from music for over a decade. Then came the turn of the century, kids got older, life got easier and after a long hiatus from music, Brian started writing again. in 2006 Brian put together a Rockabilly Trio which eventually led to “Brian Jay and the Last Call Boys.” In 2008, the band recorded the album “50 miles from nowhere.” Being true to his roots, Brian made sure the album included the cut, “Now she’s gone” a song Brian and Anthony Marais wrote in 1982.
Brian has been in the studio recording with Twang Danglers for their upcoming release this year.
